Here in Chicago, Mother Nature is being a cocktease by putting on her short skirt and low-cut shirt to give you a taste of the goods, but then turning into an ice-cold bitch when you stare a little too long.
This last week we had a few good days of weather and now it’s back to bitter cold for who knows how long? Still, that didn’t stop me from pumping up the warm weather jams at work to keep me in a good mood while the sunshine made its brief appearance. While everyone has their own style they like to listen to when the weather gets hot, I just picked out some good ones that always make me smile from tons of different styles throughout the years.
So here are some good T-shirt weather jams to rock to put a hitch in your step while walking down the street or to bob your head to while chillin on the porch.
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Up Around The Bend
Steve Miller Band - The Joker
Phantom Planet - Hey Now Girl
Weezer - Surfwax America
The Clash - Rock The Casbah
Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff - Summertime
Arrested Development - People Everyday
LL Cool J - Around The Way Girl
Color Me Badd - I Wanna Sex You Up
Lauryn Hill - Doo Wop
Mariah Carey - Fantasy
Booker T & The MGs - Green Onions (aka The Sandlot song)
Ray Charles – What’d I Say
Mr. Big - To Be With You
Lionel Richie - All Night Long
Muscles - Chocolate, Raspberry, Lemon & Lime
Ratatat – 17 Years
Chromeo – Woman Friend
Annie – Chewing Gum
Len – Steal My Sunshine
What are some of your summer songs?

No Bananarama? I’ll go to your garden party, but after countless summers trying to get Color Me Badd and Mr. Bigg out of my head, shall we say in lieu of those…
Frank Sinatra - Summer Wind
Ice Cube - It Was a Good Day
Ween - Bananas and Blow
cruel cruel summer doesn’t make the list because it’s trying too hard to be a summer song. only one actual summer song allowed, and thats jazzy and will.
Woah. I’m hoping this isn’t in any kind of order, cause Lauren Hill would bitchslap Mariah Carey right off the CD.
And seriously, “Up Around the Bend” and “The Joker”? I mean, that’s how you start it off? As a carbon copy of crappy classic rock hit radio? Why not instead Tina Turner’s version of “Rolling on the River” and Steve’s “Gangster of Love”? Same mood, better tunes.
I won’t even go into the Len pick. You probably feel sorry about that enough as it is.
definitely not an order by any means, just some picks from all over like i said. but if i must defend, i must.
1. i fully stand behind the len pick (i have a sad sad love for ridiculous pop songs), at least more so than the steve miller one which was just a typical throw in.
2. steve’s “gangster of love” isn’t “the joker” and he uses that as a lyric in the song anyway, so who cares? it was a throwaway anyway.
3. tina turner’s “rolling down the river” is actually called “proud mary” which CCR also covered. there’s nothing quite like that good ol’ swamp rock sound and fogerty’s voice that compliments a cookout quite so well. (ps - respect your elders son)
before you can bitch slap me about my picks, you may actually want to know the titles of yours… boyakasha
yeah, most of that list would make me wish winter was back so i could hibernate in a cave with earplugs in. belle and sebastian is summer music for me. and beirut. and oranges band. and the flying burrito brothers even.
this list makes me afraid. very very afraid.
i’ll just stick to my ultimate summer record, MBV’s isn’t anything.
It seems like you didn’t actually take listening to this list into consideration. For a list of summery songs that have been overplayed at one summer in your life then…okay. If so Mariah Carey is a pretty good pick actually because she makes me think of the summer that I was 11. And if you were gonna go with Len, you could just as easily go with LFO’s “summer girls” but you wouldn’t because IT SUCKS and who wants to listen to that crap?
I totally second the Belle and Sebastian. “step into my office, baby”
In addition I submit:
Death Cab for Cutie - Photobooth
Of Montreal - Climb a Ladder (or anything from Satanic Panic, really)
Ben Kweller - Wasted and Ready
Outkast - Ghetto Musick
damn y’all…
i picked a list that’s easy to get into for most people’s enjoyment. my indie points aren’t fucking high enough to get way off the charts.
does no one listen to pop music at all anymore or are we all too jaded because our blood flow has been cut off by our skinny jeans?
i personally can’t feel anything from the waste down. but my hair looks good, so whatever.

The album Master of Styles by The Urge is a good set of songs for me.
