Replicator US tour blog - Day 8 - “this IS the big time.”

Waking up well rested, with a good nights sleep under your belt is a godsend, even to a stone cold atheist such as myself. Having the equivalent of a 5 star breakfast waiting for you when you finally do awaken may possibly be the best thing ever.

We devoured the breakfast goodies that Ben’s mother prepared for us as if we were starving refugees who had just emerged from a desert island into civilization.

Laundry! beds! non-fast food!

heavenly.

Ben’s mom’s wireless network has never worked, so basically ripped it apart and completely reconfigured it from scratch. It took awhlie, but I got it humming pretty good, hey, it’s the least I can do since she’s always so nice to us on tour.

We ended up paying a visit to Ben’s paternal grandparents, really nice older folks. His grandpa worked at the Ford plant for 30-40 years or so, so he’s very excited to hear how much we love the Supernaut, our 2006 Ford Econoline van.

After retelling some of our tour stories to a rapt audience, Ben’s granddad mentioned something about “hitting the big time”

“This IS the big time.” Ben said.

Everybody laughed, but in a way, it’s true… we don’t want to be pop stars, we like making the fiercely uncomprimising music we love to make. Would we be bummed to be really popular? Of course not! duh. But it’s not the end goal.

In any case, we ended up going to dinner with Ben’s father and sister, a pretty awesome Mediterranean place, with a friendly waitress and one of the best Gyros i’ve had in a long, long time. On the way back to the van, there is a guy in a zombie suit and somebody juggling fire sticks for some reason, but hey man, we’re from the bay area.. that stuff barely phases us.

Family Adrian

Ben with his father and sister… we all think his dad kind of looks like Sam Elliot, whaddya think?

I really wanted to get a picture of Chris walking past the zombie guy, totally oblivious and apathetic while talking on the phone, but I didn’t move fast enough… damn!

After dinner we headed over to Andrew and Barbara’s place, Andrew is an ex-bandmate of Ben’s from a few bands, they have a beautiful home that they’ve sunk a hell of a lot of work into, and it shows! We hung out for a bit in the music area in the basement, until a lightning storm busted out and we went outside to see. Crazy! Weather… heh.

After leaving Andrew’s we headed straight over to the Melody Inn. The Melody is a cool dive bar that Replicator has played before. It’s unpretentious, just the right amount of seedy and usually a lot of fun. It turns out that they have a cool little back area/green room/relaxo area now, verrrrry nice.

Conan Neutron

note the red light, which connotates awesome, badass, secret rock star stuff.

Eat Sugar from Cincinnatti played first, didn’t snap any pictures unfortunately, I really dug the drummers electronic percussion pad in addition to the live drums.

Then, it was time to REPLICATE!

Setlist:

King Shit of Fuck Mountain
Fashionably Latent
Payment Www.yzzz.rd
Delicious Fornicake

The Tiny Machines are (Still) out for Revenge
Login With My Fist

We were going to play Enigma Machine, since it’s a mood changeup and features Ben pretty prominently, but we axed it midset, because we wanted to keep the mood up. We played pretty well, despite the fact that the stage is setup kind of awkward

Sump Pumps played again and were very good, I got up and helped out on vocals for Gut Feeling and Gates of Steel by DEVO. Good times, good times indeed.

Sump Pumps!

Sump Pumps!!

Sump Pumps!!

Sump Pumps!!!

Sump Pumps!!!

It’s out last night with Sump Pumps, so we bid them farewell and thank them for the awesome shows, thanks dudes!

Ben, Todds and Chris
Here’s Ben surrounded by a Todd of the past (Saraswati) and a Todd of the present, and Chris.

Not that much in the way of money sadly, but Sump Pumps gave us some of theirs, which is good of them.

$30 from the door, $10 from Sump Pumps, $37 in merch, for a total of $77.

not the best, but not the worst!

I did manage to talk a crack addict guy into buying a cd for $7 though, who knows, maybe I have a future in marketing after all?

oh yeah, also today August 25th is Chris’s birthday

i’m hoping for a present we can have a really great show. He found his cellphone too, so he already has one present, and Ben and I (mostly me) are taking turns driving so he can just rest today.

Happy birthday Cribdeth, we love you man.

See you tonight, guys…oops, I mean tomorrow. It’ll be after midnight, so technically…

Yeah, Conan, thanks for fixing my Wireless.

You guys ARE in the Big Time.

Later and Love,
