oh! hello. i didn’t see you there. let me just take these expensive headphones off and put this on pause, here, and–oh, what’s that? what am i listening to? why, this is the latest full-length from australian band youth group, hot off the presses. it’s really good. what? hell, i don’t know if they actually use presses, i just…it’s an expression, ok? leave me alone.
anyway, dear readers, if you’ve noticed that we’re suddenly getting a lot more comments, there is a reason…you can now comment to superstarcastic without officially registering on the site. we couldn’t call ourselves a socialist collective if we didn’t condone sharing, after all.
this means that the shy and terrified among you can actually voice your opinions without worrying that we will track you down by your email address and kill you for liking billy joel or panic!#$^& at the disco or even (gulp) my chemical romance. don’t get me wrong - we would much rather know who you are so as to properly make fun of you. however, if you have something to say, by all means make up a pseudonym and jump on in there.
also, merry holidays and all that. we will probably be low on the postings over the next week and a half or so but please bookmark us and come back - we will make it worth your while, we promise.

My biggest disappointment was that this post didn’t have a picture of you sitting by the fire, Joie, posing with your expensive headphones and your Youth Group album.
oh, man, that would have been awesome. except i don’t have a digital camera. or a fireplace. or the actual youth group cd…cds are SO last year, you know.
Joie, in a robe, puffing a pipe, all Masterpiece Theatre-style, iPod at her side, slowly rotating toward the camera in her chair…”Oh! Didn’t see you there. Good evening…”
Hi Joie, this is Sasha. I met you at the media holiday get-together the other night. Cool website.
Isn’t Youth Group the band who covered ‘Forever Young’ on the OC soundtrack? I LOVE that song.
Any band who contributes to the OC has the potential to banned from this website
hi sasha, glad you stopped by and commented and all. yes, it’s the same band - i was prepared to dislike them because alphaville’s original is awesome and they didn’t give proper credit and all (imho). but i like this new record despite myself. email me your address and i will send you a mix with my current favourite song “sorry” on it.
commissar dave, i don’t agree. i’ve never even seen the show but whoever is choosing the music for it seems to know what they’re doing. don’t be a hater, yo.
The Poster Children had a song used on the OC, as did Milwaukee dance-punk band Temper Temper. Still, i’ll agree that being used on the OC gives the band the potential to be banned from the website–i.e. it’s not gonna get you banned by itself, but it’s not exactly gonna help your case.
I’m sorry, any show where that pretty boy playing Seth Cohen is supposed to be a “nerdy” type has lost me before i’ve started.
but we’re not talking about the show’s quality, we’re talking about the songs. what, if you LIKE a show then it’s cool for the bands you dig to have a song used on it? so it’s a matter of personal preference, just like music is.
i’m not even sure if i agree with what i just said. just making the point. i do know that when my friends in bands have sold something or gotten exposure that way, i was happy for them because (in a perfect world) it gives them the assets to create more music that i like. it’s their choice to “sell out,” whatever that means, become heroin addicts, lame rock stars, etc.
now advertising is sketchier. cat power on a diamond commercial? EVILNESS!
Ehn, Delays did a diamond commercial and I still love ‘em. Though I really wish the ad execs had asked Rasputina to do it instead: “GIVE ME THE GODDAMN DIAMOND!!!”
Wouldn’t it be better if Joie was in her music room, like Hollywood Steve from Yacht Rock?
I think you guys need to make shirts. I would so love a t-shirt or sweatshirt that says, “superstarcastic”.
funny you should mention that - t shirts are in the works as we speak. they are going to be pretty badass too. so there.
