From the “OMG Watch DJ Flip His Shit Like a Complete Spaz” files:
One of my all-time favorite bands ever ever ever f’realsy’all, Superchunk, has just announced a show at the Metro in Chicago on June 20th. The opening act? One of those singer-songwriter indie-Americana types that the kids these days go googly and grow mountain-man beards for, The Mountain Goats. Which is cool and all, because they’re one of the few groups in that genre that doesn’t make me roll my eyes, but on their website they say that they hope that the Cubs are playing .500 ball by the time they’re in Chicago for the show, so fuck ‘em. Go Brewers.
Anyway, here’s the announcement from the Merge Records website:
Superchunk will be playing Chicago on June 20th! The occasion is the Eff Cancer Benefit at the Metro and will also feature such indie rock wildlife as The Mountain Goats and a special guest to be announced soon.
The show is being put together for longtime Superchunk fan Sean Silver, who 4 years ago was diagnosed with Chordoma. Proceeds will go to fight this rare form of cancer. Tickets go on sale May 12!
Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster (w/ fee) or directly from the Metro Box Office in person (no fee).
So there you have it. It’s even for a good cause and stuff.
Seriously, folks. I haven’t seen the ‘Chunk since 1999. That’s a ridiculous amount of time to be separated from my secret indie-rock girlfriend, Laura Ballance. Laura, you never write or call. Seriously, WTF.

i’m officially fed the fuck up with the midwest.
Gawd, DJ, it could be worse… they could be rooting for the White Sox. Give The Mountain Goats a break–John Darnielle totally loves metal.
[...] Goats show at the Metro–the “Eff Cancer benefit for the now-deceased Sean Silver that we previously mentioned here–was one of those moments. Because, wow. (Note: photos from the show behind the cut! [...]
