The Czars are touring in 2007!

Filed under News/Music News and Events/Tour Dates by joiezabel

holy crap! the czars (<3 <3 <3) have announced tour dates for early 2007.  i will be at as many of these shows as i possible can...their 2002 album the ugly people vs. the beautiful people has a coveted place on the list of joie’s 10 favourite albums of all time.  john grant’s voice is like a razorblade wrapped in unsweetened whipped cream…listen and don’t miss the show if it comes to your town.  or if you miss it, at least don’t tell me.  i thought we were friends.

yeah, duh. they’re touring right now actually. but now they’re called the “new czars” and they have a new singer. how they possibly expect to get by the whole tour without ric ocasek is totally beyond me. that lundgren guy can’t walk on water. everytime they do that song “uh oh it’s magic” he’ll drown.

oh. czars. right. carry on then.

btw, razorblades in unsweetened whipped cream just doesn’t sound that good to me. maybe it’s me but i’d like a new simile. can i get a witness?

bryson, not funny.

so listen and tell me what YOU think his voice sounds like. i happen to like unsweetened whipped cream a whole hell of a lot. and razorblades too.

(no, i am not a cutter. sheesh.)

Comment by bryson — November 29, 2006 @ 3:18 pm

whatever, cutter. go cut yourself.

i would have listened before your simile, but now i’m afraid. try again, please. thanks.

i think it’s a pretty good simile, but i don’t know his voice, so i can’t say whether or not it’s accurate. i think you guys should have to wrestle or something to settle this.

well, listen to it, dorks! i’m up for suggestions.

when i say an album by a band is one of my ten favourites of all time, i expect people to IMMEDIATELY check out said band. because i’ve listened to more than ten albums in my day and that means something special.

you guys make me want to drink, dammit.

Comment by bryson — November 29, 2006 @ 4:04 pm

if it’s a good simile i’m not interested. sorry. i could cut my tongue. i think i’ll listen to the new czars instead. less dangerous.

joie, you should be drinking anyway. it’s wednesday.

“in your day”??? Joie, you’re not allowed to say that until your 42nd birthday. Listen to Amber, dude. It’s hump day, not in your day.

Is there an upcoming “Joie’s top ten albums of all time” post? You might as well break down and do it, so we can immediately go check them all out at once. Heck, I’ll even do a top 10 post too…I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.

Comment by amber — November 29, 2006 @ 6:43 pm

oooh a top 10! we should all have to post one! that would be highly interesting.

top 10…of all time…man, this is going to take some thought.

Comment by Christine — November 29, 2006 @ 6:52 pm

We could consolidate \’em, ya know. Although I would really like to hear everyone go off on their top ten albums, and *what* they like about them.

Anyway, Joie, since they\’re playing T.T.\’s when they hit Boston, and T.T.\’s is super-easy for me to get to, I\’ll totally go see them.

Comment by Sam E. — November 29, 2006 @ 6:52 pm

I’d totally go for making a top 10 list manditory for all of us.

Also, if, as the title indicates, these are ‘07 tour dates, why does the post and every date within the post say ‘06? ;)

Comment by Christine — November 29, 2006 @ 6:58 pm

Crap, did these shows already happen? Joie, if you’re going to make us interested in one of your top 10, you have to stop being such a tease.

Comment by amber — November 29, 2006 @ 7:03 pm

I was just thinking the same thing? ‘06 or ‘07? me confused.

Comment by joiezabel — November 30, 2006 @ 12:48 am

kids, you are right. it does say 2006. that is not cool. i emailed bella union to ask what the deal is. (i also asked them to answer our 5 qustions…cocteau twins unite!). i will let you know. either i am an idiot (very possible), the czars publicist is an idiot (say it ain’t so), or i will see the czars in the spring of 2007. you know what i’m going for here, right?

i will let you know. in the meantime, listen to them anyway. that album MADE 2002 for me, which otherwise was not a stellar year. ok then.

Don’t shoot the messenger, but… unless The Czars are playing at the same club on the same day with the same bands, these are dates from ‘06. I only remember ’cause I can instantly recollect every time Minus Story has played in the tri-state area. :)

Comment by Commissar Startastic — November 30, 2006 @ 9:38 pm

wtf how can they not play Denver?

pppppbbbbt!

Comment by Vitamin K — February 1, 2007 @ 12:53 pm

To set the record straight, there is only one tour date so far for 2007 for the Czars and it is the Bowery Ballroom NYC on 2.9.07 with Midlake (Sold out, BTW). And, they are not going by “the New Czars”, still the Czars, and John Grant is still the singer. He is currently living in NYC and working on a new album with Dave Devine, the guitar player who did the last two European tours and SXSW with John. You can keep track of John and his razorblade voice on myspace.com/theczars xoxo VK
