Rainer Maria to disband in December

Filed under News/Music News and Cities/New York City and Events/Tour Dates by Christine

The Awful Truth of Loving will tear us apart, againRainer Maria have announced that they are breaking up. The word from their website:

Along with other big changes in the air this November, we are sorry to announce that we will be disbanding at the end of this year, following a few farewell performances.

Though the band are originally from Madison, WI, they moved to Brooklyn like, oh, just about everyone else. Their final shows will take place on the East Coast:

Friday, Dec 15th | First Unitarian Church | Philadelphia
Saturday, Dec 16th | Bowery Ballroom | New York

I for one will miss Rainer Maria, as they were one of the few emo acts out there who knew how to put together an outfit not involving a black hoodie.

Now who’s going to carry the torch for band named after French poets? Someone — maybe that guy from Snow Patrol — is gonna have to change his stage name to Jules LaForgue, just to maintain the cosmic balance.

Sam, I think a German poet would be most appropriate, which is why when I actually form my theoretical band, our songs will involve a shoutout or two to Bertolt Brecht… awww yeah. And Joie, did you not notice the sarcasm in the post (I like RM, but I’m not earnest about them or anything)? At any rate, no need to apologize for matters of taste.

i missed the sarcasm. it must have been the sad lack of caffeine in my yesterday. and the fact that i was wearing a black hoodie. ;)

Hmm…I tend to think of Rilke as a French poet even though he wasn’t, because by the end of the career he was writing almost exclusively in French, sorta like Samuel Beckett. But, in the true Germanic spirit, I vote that, leaving Brecht for you, the next “solo” project formed by a former member of blink-182 must include the name “Christian Morgenstern.”
