Replicator US tour blog - Day14/day15 - “…and then the Hifi showed up.”

Hi everybody, i’m Conan Neutron, I play in the band Replicator from Oakland, CA. There are many tour diaries, but this one is mine. Thanks to the SSC gang for asking us to do it here.

Day 14 we drove, we drove a lot… nothing especially notable happened. Originally we were going to play Pittsburgh, but that got all screwed up, so we didn’t. We drove, we ate, we slept. I will spare you the play by play.

Day 15: We are officially in Replicator/Ifihadahifi tour mode right now, or if you prefer the IfihadaReplitour as it has been dubbed. Yes indeed, we have hooked up with our good pals from Wisconsin the Hifi for the next 4 shows of our tour, good, good times. The venue, the Gypsy Hut in Cincinatti Ohio, was a very promising place indeed, we drove up only to be greeted and shown where to load in and all the other particulars you normally have to ask for. A good start! Television (the band) was playing on the jukebox. The place seemed to have an awesome new little nook and cranny around every corner. Professional stage with real pal? check! Outdoor patio?: check! With second level balcony? Check! Other then being a little labyrinthian it seemed downright badass.

Very nice because when we first arrived I only saw the front barroom and just assumed we’d be playing in the corner or something.

It was shaping up to be rather awesome.

And then the Hifi showed up…

I kid… really… I love those 4 gents, but for whatever reason, the show just went south pretty quick. Whether we brought the bad luck or they did, disaster was soon to stirke After some hanging out and shooting the breeze of old rock and roll tour stories (I particularly enjoyed their show with Satan’s Slaves!), the show got going soon enough. There was starting to be a pretty good sized crowd inside and in the front part of the bar, which encouraged me.

Little did I know that none of these people gave the remotest damn about the music happening in the other room and almost all of them would stay exactly where they were the whole night. Yet really that was the least of the problems to come.

However we did get our new shirts!
hear ye!
Hear ye, hear ye! we have new merch!!
That’s M’ris there heralding it’s arrival with a bullhorn we literally picked up in Boston.

This is good as are pretty much out of every kind of shirt but youth large and small in the old design.
YAY!

The hifi played first tonight, borrowing my amp and Ben’s bass amp, to save on transporting equipment and for ease of use, after all we are playing all of the shows WITH them right?

Unfortunately my amp decided to not co-operate and indeed fuck up heroically, which was bad news both for me, but also for Yale Delay. Their set was marred with a bunch of amplifier related issues and made it a difficult show for them to say the least. One of the things I love about the Hifi though is that they still plow through what they do as if they’ve been given a cyanide capsule and have 20 minutes to live.

Incidentally, I mean that in a good way.

I can’t remember the entire setlist, but I do remember Paradise by the Paulding Light, Success, Success, Success and No More Music among others… including at least one song off of the first album? i’m sure DJ can chime in with the details.
I guess that’s one of the perks of touring with one of the regulars from this very site!

Hi, we’re Replicator from Oakland, California… or if you prefer… the internet
setlist:

Fashionably Latent
King Shit of Fuck Mountain
Delicious Fornicake
Baby, I Want to Terraform Your Planet
The Tiny Machines are (Still) Out for Revenge
The Frogurt is Cursed
Login With My Fist

Sadly, it wasn’t our finest hour.
Performance wise? It was alright, overall i’d have to say it’s the only show thus far on this tour that i’ve been disappointed with. Michael’s amp, while awesome in Ifihadahifi just didn’t have the power i’m used to, or the sound to get through everything. Which meant that I felt like I was doing karaoke the entire time. Don’t get me wrong, i’m super, duper stoked that he has it, as mine was essentially fubar. But the sound, leaving much to be desired in the first place, really wasn’t picking up the slack at all.

It’s a rotten feeling to know that you aren’t playing your best in front of people, however small a group that it might be, that may never see you again. It happens though, it happens.

Hey, I ever pressed my naked chest up against the window to the patio during Login With My Fist, nothing doing.
At least we have a show tonight that we can use to cleanse the pallate.

I used it as an excellent opportunity to soak up the free beer and actually get somewhat intoxicated.

Gypsy Hut does a very smart thing, which is to pay a percentage of the bar take to the talent, which is very good for a show like tonight. Knife the Symphony, being total sweethearts, give us and Hifi all of their share, which means a total of $100 for us and another $100 for them. Combine that with $70 in merch (!), and pay wise it wasn’t a bad show at all.

All of that drinking requires emergency stops sometimes:

Tonight is Detroit, then Chicago, and Milwaukee…
I’m looking forward to this next run of shows with our buds, and I know it’ll be better then this rocky start for them, and one off slump for us.
