Replicator US tour blog - Day 7 - “this band protected by the Freedom Tickler!”

Hi everybody, i’m Conan Neutron, I play in the band Replicator from Oakland, CA. There are many tour diaries, but this one is mine. Thanks to the SSC gang for asking us to do it here.

Freedom Tickler

Freedom Tickler, “tickle her fancy with the REAL thing, it’s the patriotic thing to do.”

Hilarious condom available at a rural gas station.

We left Robert’s house pretty early, after making sure to hook him up with as many Replicator buttons and stickers as he could handle. Thanks guys! I had a total scare when I thought I had left my brand new perscription sunglasses (or “perscription stunnaz” if you prefer), at his place, and I realized we didn’t have his number. I basically had a couple of kittens freaking out, since I used to be photoallergenic and am still really, really sensitive to bright light.

Luckilly I had stowed it away in a compartment in my sidebag… whew!

one of the things I really wanted to do before we left Memphis is visit Sun Studios, home of Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, etc. It’s still an active recording studio, but it’s the only recording studio that’s a national landmark. Awesome.

I was worried about having enough money to actually pay for the tour, when the really nice girl at the register informed us that since we were a band we all got free admission for the price of a cd. BAD-ASS!

By nature of the tour, and that he is the King it was pretty Elvis centric, but as much as there were a ton of people in our group snapping shots nonstop, a hell of a lot of magic happened right in those walls, it was rad to be there.

We had a really good time, and everybody but me had some coffee there, since I don’t drink it.

Soon enough we were on the road again! Travelling up through Arkansas again, into lower Illinois and into Indiana. As per normal roadside stops are always high entertainment:

hilarious sign

I love this sign at the same gas station we found the freedom tickler at.

HUGE cross

There was a gigantic cross on the side of the road.

GIGANTIC CROSS!

freaking GIGANTIC cross at the side of the road, building for scale

We got to Bloomington about 20 minutes before load in, we touched based with the Sump Pumps, our friends who set up the show. It turns out it’s move in day, and all of the kids that are going to school have just got into town. So there is pretty much an endless display of amateurish drinking and girls that seem to be prepared at any given moment to go wild.

Uncle Fester’s, the venue (full name: Uncle Fester’s House of Booze), is a pretty cool little two floored venue… a stage and lower area, and a sort of balcony as well. Apparantly there is some huge show that “everybody” is going to… figures.

I got a compliment on my Cyn Cyn shirt, who are very well loved in Bloomington it seems.

It was a good show, we played really well… although i’d say 33% of folks were into it, 33% were kind of eh, 33% were just there to drink. A wee bit disappointing for a college town, but still a good show overall, and we’re stoked to have played with Sump Pumps and our new pals in Push Pull.

Setlist:

Fashionably Latent
King Shit of Fuck Mountain
Delicious Fornicake
Warrior Needs Food, Badly
Baby, I Want to Terraform Your Planet
The Tiny Machines are (Still) Out For Revenge
Login With My Fist

Sump Pumps and Chris and Ben's back

Chris and Ben’s back as they watch the Sump Pumps. Sump Pumps ruled it, RIYL: DEVO, 6 Finger Satellite and Man… or astroman? among other awesomes. I’m stoked that they are going to be playing with us tonight too. I liked Push Pull as well, well executed Touch and go Style rock.

Also thanks to both bands for being rad enough to give us their share of the cash:

$115 door, and $30 off merch… for a total of $145.

It was momentous also because Chris sold his first ever cd in 8 years of being a band… yay!
We ended up heading back to Indianapolis to stay at Ben’s mom’s awesome place… we made a stop at Whitecastle for some seriously unhealthy late night food. Chris and I (ok mostly me) drunkenly Dj’d the ride there.

Unfortunately it looks like Chris might have lost his cellphone, MAJOR bummer.

I PDFO’d (*Passed Da Funk Out!) as soon as my head hit the pillow.

Tonight, Indianapolis!

Remember, if you have time when you’re in Cleveland for baseball, the RNR Hall of Fame is really close to Jacobs Field and does the same “admission is one CD if you’re a band” thing. Good to know that about Sun; if we’re ever in Memphis we’ll check it out for sure.

My favorite kind of kissing is freedom kissing.

so, DID the girls go wild?

oh, you know i dated a recording nerd when looking at those sun mics made me get all misty eyed….

i always found Bloomington to be really weird in general, you never knew how a show was going to be. like the whole time zone mess puts them in an alternate universe or something.

I’m totally into the Rock and Roll hall of shame, i’m planning on attending!
even if it has to be the next morning.

no, no girls went wild… sadly?
Perhaps mardis beads would be the answer?

Bloomington totally has an alternate universe vibe to it, I think that’s dead on, it’s a strange little college town.

I told you that shirt would make you popular and beloved by everyone! That, and a Freedom Tickler. What a great country.
