Noah and the Whale

noah.jpegi feel like you all should know that i am kind of infatuated with london band noah and the whale. they play breezy folk-pop tunes with whistling and stuff. whistling is very in these days, you know. the new single is called “shape of my heart” and the video is pretty awesome for ten bucks and a video camera. or maybe that should be 5 pounds and a video camera. whatever. foreigners.

anyway, watch it and report back. the commie wifebeater is the best.

rvm.jpgThis is the big summer edition. It’s pretty epic. They use STP’s Vaseline as the opening preview song, which is too bad. There is some really good stuff on this one. Click more to keep reading.

New Recurring Post Alert: Rock Video Monthly 1994

416efrhah5l_aa280_.jpgA couple years ago at “the bins” I got my dirty little hands on a stack of Rock Video Monthly: Alternative Releases vhs tapes from 1994. They were put out by Warner Music and I assume were meant for college tv stations and the like. I’ve occasionally put them on mute during parties and watched one or two on those nights when you’re really scraping for stoner entertainment, but I’ve never sat down and really paid attention to each one of them.

So, over the next few…however long it takes me, I’ll be sitting down and watching each video of each tape chronologically, offering my thoughts. If there’s a video on youtube, I’ll link to it so you can share the experience. This oughta be good. March ‘94 after the jump. Read more »

No Kylie For Old Men

Filed under News/Video by Sam E.

I don’t have anything to say about Camille Saint-SaĆ«ns that seems worthy of this venue, so I may be putting my writing-about-my-listening-project on hold for a while.

Instead, I give you this, courtesy of the miracle of modern technology, which gives us robots, hydroplanes, carbon-composite tennis rackets, and obscure Kylie Minogue TV clips. You’ll have to tell me if you agree, but I think it may be the single most awkward artist/audience mismatch I’ve ever seen, and that includes the time I saw a crowd watch Eisley (who I was there to see, let it be known) go on stage immediately before Reggie and the Full Effect and New Found Glory.

And yes, maybe she deserves it for lip-synching that obviously, but then again I’m not sure these guys would be worth the effort of actually singing for.

Video: Bez’s Madchester Anthems or Anti-Drug Ad?

If the words Bez and Madchester mean nothing to you… well, then move along.

If, on the other hand, you know what those words mean, enjoy the video below and maybe feel a little shame that you probably won’t ever be this hard core.

P.S. - I own this collection and it’s got some gems on it. I’d rate it way higher than Sia’s Some People Have Real Problems.
